Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

According to LochTree, a company dedicated to creating plastic-free and sustainable products, the average American uses around 11 plastic bottles of shampoo and 5 bottles of conditioner a year. As we have learned, this plastic will end up in landfills and could even go into the ocean, killing sea and land creatures alike. Estimates show that plastic can take 20 to 500 years to decompose and even then it doesn’t fully disappear (For more information on how plastic decomposes visit the World Wildlife Fund’s: Life Cycle of Plastics). Plastic is a big danger to our world and is only continuing to be a growing threat, so what can you do to help? In this series: Pass On Plastic we will be talking about how we can stop using single-use plastics simply yet effectively.

One step you can take to reduce your plastic usage is by using shampoo and condition bars. Bars often have a richer lather because they are not diluted. The average shampoo bar holds the same amount of product as 2-3 bottled shampoos making these bars longer lasting and more cost efficient. Shampoo and conditioner bars tend to be less harsh and therefore less damaging to the hair, they effectively cleanse the scalp and revive moisture leaving the hair smooth and shining.

Even though shampoo bars hold more product, they take up less space, reducing packaging waste and taking up less space in delivery trucks allowing more products to be delivered in less trucks reducing carbon emissions as well!
